The LRSF is open to all middle school and high school students in Jefferson County and 11 surrounding Kentucky counties. An estimated 300 students will participate in 2009. The University of Louisville hosts the LRSF on its Belknap campus.Category winners in the 2009 LRSF will represent the Louisville region in the sixth annual Kentucky Science and Engineering Fair (KY-SEF), to be held at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
High school finalists will also represent Kentucky in the 2009 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (IISEF), where over 1500 students from around the world will compete for over $3 million in scholarships, tuition grants, scientific equipment and trips. Additional awards may include scholarships, as well as special awards presented by LRSF sponsor corporations and organizations.Teachers and others with extensive past experience in the LRSF preparation and judging process are available to assist teachers and their students who are new to the LRSF competition.
